Preliminary treatment
Wastewater collected from the in-town and beach areas of Kennebunk
arrives at the Water Street treatment plant. There Archimedes screw pumps lift the wastewater about 20 feet, which allows it to flow by
gravity through the rest of the plant. The wastewater first travels through series of racks and screens that remove large pieces of plastic, cloth or paper as well as sand or other heavy materials. At this point the flow is measured and recorded.
