Above, treated and dried solids are spread on a field for use as fertilizer.

Treating the solids

The biosolids removed in the primary and secondary clarifiers are stored until there is enough to process. The solids, which are still in a liquid form, are pumped into another tank and mixed with a polymer that causes the loose material to clump together and help separate from the water. The conditioned biosolids are moved to a belt filter press that uses gravity and pressure to remove water from the solids. This process produces a dry cake that is trucked to a biosolids processor that further treats the biosolids so that it can be land applied and used as a fertilizing soil conditioner.
